"Directory": Catalogue of primary documents and locations
After identifying the whereabouts of documents related to the fields of fine arts, arts and crafts, design, architecture, textile-dyeing, fashion, food, printing, film, music, theater, literature, manga and so on, the information collected by the JCRI served to draw up a directory sheet.
Putting into practice the endeavor of gathering information by investigating the substantial sources on Japanese Postwar Art, as well as to map out their location, Keio University Art Center started to use an inventory sheet in 2010. Keio University also holds the estates of Shuzo Takiguchi, Tatsumi Hijikata, Shoichi Yui, and has furthermore successfully established the Noguchi Room.
Obviously the JCRI is strongly approving of Keio University Art Center’s initiative to practically detect sources and map them. As the name “Japan Cultural Research Institute” proves, we aim to foster research of that kind in various fields. We are contributing to this endeavor not only by implementing a “directory” for cultural historical research as mentioned before, but also by making the information accessible to experts in the respective fields, actively publicizing and sharing this information via web.
