Formed in 1951, Experimental Workshop was an artists' organization that brought together artists, musicians, and others and left behind many groundbreaking activities through active interactions that transcended the boundaries of genres. This book is a partial English translation of Document: Experimental Workshop 2010 (edited by Harumi Nishizawa, Tokyo Publishing House), which contains pamphlets, photographs, newspaper and magazine reviews, and other materials from the period between 1951 and 1957, and provides a complete overview of their activities. The book also uncovers the reception and evaluation of Experimental Workshop by providing the first-hand reviews published on periodicals such as art Bijutsu Hihyō (art criticism) and Tokyo Shimbun. Many of these reviews are translated into English for the first time.
