〈Talk〉“Tatsuo Kawaguchi: Story of DARK, morceau”
JCRI co-hosted the event in conjunction with the exhibition “Tatsuo Kawaguchi: DARK” held at YOKOTA TOKYO. Kawaguchi had his solo show at the gallery in 1984 for the first time. Since then, Kawaguchi and Shigeru Yokota (founder of the gallery / Chief Director of JCRI) have been harmoniously working for over forty years. Introduced by Yokota, Kawaguchi started his talk with his early childhood memory when he became aware of darkness for the very first time. He humorously talked about the trajectory of making the DARK works, in which he materialized one of the most critical elements—darkness — in his art making.
Followed by dialogues of Kawaguchi and an art critic, Masanori Ichikawa, and Professor & Curator at Keio University Art Center, Yohko Watanabe respectively, they further explored the meanings of Kawaguchi’s DARK.[Information]
