〈Talk Event〉“Commemorating Katsuhiro Yamaguchi”
Katsuhiro Yamaguchi (1928-2018) started his career as an artist soon after the end of World War II. He was well-known as the pioneer of media art for his experimental works that incorporated new technologies and transcended the existing boundary of paintings and sculptures. He was also an active member of Jikken Kōbō, an avant-garde art group named by renowned art critic Shūzō Takiguchi. Besides his artistic activities, Yamaguchi taught at Tsukuba University and wrote numerous books. Commemorating a year from his passing, YOKOTA TOKYO held the exhibition “Katsuhiro Yamaguchi: The Sun also Rises,” in which his video works, objects, “vitrine” and the works created last years of his life were exhibited. Tadayasu Sakai and Toshino Iguchi talked various aspects of Yamaguchi from his personality, works, to association with other artists.
