Subsidized English translation of the texts in Symptom: Kōji Enokura Photo Works 1969-1994.
Kōji Enokura (1942-1995) is one of the prominent artists in Japanese art since the 1970s, and his works range from installations, prints to paintings. Since he passed away in 1995, many of his photographs had been kept by his family. Since 2010, the Tokyo Publishing House, together with photographic researcher Kin'ichi Obinata and art critic Isako Kumagai, had investigated the photographs left in his home. Symptom: Kōji Enokura Photo Works 1969-1994 contains not only the photographic works confirmed in the investigation, but also contact prints, photographs of the early exhibition, and the ones taken in his later years. It also contains the texts written by Mr. Obinata and Ms. Kumagai and the Enokura’s texts published in the past. Until now, very few documents, especially about Enokura’s photographs have been written in English. This book will be a valuable resource to introduce Kōji Enokura's photographs not only to Japan but also to abroad.
