〈Exhibition〉“Ephemera: Printed Matter and Expression” at Keio Museum Commons (KeMCo)
KeMCo and JCRI share the view of ephemera as critical media and resources for artists and their creative activities. We have co-hosted the talk event “Ephemera: Library, Museum, and Archive” at Keio University in September 2023, and our continuous collaboration takes shape as this exhibition. The exhibition, co-organized by KeMCo and JCRI, presents the series of journals, bulletins, exhibition catalogues, and magazines that simultaneously act as means of conveying information and artistic expression. Institutions such as Sogetsu Art Center, Art & Project, Minami Gallery and Studio International explored possibilities of ephemera through their collaborations with various cultural practitioners. In a separate room, works by contemporary artists Tatsuo Kawaguchi and Motohiro Tomii, both of whom work with ephemera as one of their media, are displayed. Kawaguchi's handling of printed materials related to his own exhibitions and Tomii's handling of printed materials not directly related to himself highlight their different attitudes toward ephemera.
The exhibition catalogue is available at KeMCo and JCRI. For more information, click here.[Information]
