〈Symposium〉“Life and Non-Life: Approach from New Media Art”
The symposium was held on November 2, the next day of closing of “Sachiko Kodama: On Dazzling” (2019.10.1–11.1) exhibition. Over sixty people came to the event. In her presentation, professor Kodama introduced her ferrofluid “liquid sculpture” that organically changes its form being controlled by magnetic field. Drawing on philosophical perspectives, professor Yoshioka argued that the notions of life and non-life should be deemed as being comparative, not polarity. Professor Iwasaki utilized biological and humanistic approaches in order to explicate the process of the ways in which humans see life in matters. In the panel discussion, the panelists showed their interests in exploring the boundaries among art, philosophy and biology.
